Adding a whirlpool bathtub to your home is an excellent way to incorporate a touch of luxury into your daily routine. Jetted tubs offer numerous benefits, from relieving muscle soreness to providing a tranquil experience for the mind.

However, like other bathroom fixtures, they can accumulate bacteria and soap scum due to the presence of bubbles, body oils, and soap. It is essential to regularly clean the jets of your bathtub, even if the buildup is not visible, to ensure their proper functioning and to ensure that you are bathing in clean water free from harmful germs.

To minimize buildup, it is advisable to avoid using certain products, such as baby oil and bubble baths, in jetted tubs. Additionally, after each use, it is recommended to refill the tub with warm water and run the jets for 15 to 20 minutes to flush them out.

However, even with these precautions, homeowners who frequently use their bathtubs should conduct a thorough jet cleaning at least once a month. This process involves following a few simple steps.

To ensure a thorough cleaning of your bathtub’s jets, begin by filling the tub with hot water, making sure it
reaches at least three inches above the height of the jets. Next, add between two to four teaspoons of powdered dishwasher detergent or any other low-foaming disinfectant.

For a more intensive cleaning, you can include up to half a cup of bleach. Allow the jets to run for approximately 15 minutes before turning them off and draining the tub. Once emptied, refill the tub with cool water and run the jets for another 15 minutes.

Finally, drain the tub again, leaving your jets free from any lingering soap scum or germs that you would rather not have accompanying you during your next relaxing bath.
