How Tiles are Made

It is common to look at your bathroom´s walls and floor and not thinking about the origin of the beautiful materials used to cover them. When it comes to tiles, those shiny, elegant, and even artistic pieces of ceramic, porcelain, or stone, there are several elements that define their quality and the way they make your bathroom as it is.

For manufacturing tiles, there are five steps: The first one is mining, taking them out of nature in quarries; The second is blending, usually, by mixing clay, pottery stone, silica or talc with sand and water; The third is pressing, made with mechanical ways to give them the necessary density; the fourth is glazing, which consists of adding silicon dioxide, aluminum dioxide or diverse fluxes to give them shine, and, finally, firing, thus “maturing” clay and glazes.

The tiles can, of course, be painted by hand or industrially. In both cases, they look beautiful and give personality to the places they are used to. The decoration is a way to express yourself and give your spaces an identity and a bathroom, as the personal place it is, must reflect your good taste, and be enjoyed, primarily by you.
