Changing Tiles – Steps

Changing Tiles is not just a matter of removing the old ones and replacing them. In order to assure the quality and durability of the work, there are some things to keep in mind.

Break the old tile, carefully.

After removing the old tile, is removing, completely, the mortar that held it. The remaining mortar can make the new tile not being well attached or protrude from others in the future.

The space for the new tile must be measured, preferably with a straightedge, to make sure that putting it won’t damage the symmetry described by the whole tiles’ line. Then having an accurate idea of how to put it without harming the symmetry, apply thin-set mortar with great care. Attention to detail is crucial for not making the replacement look worse than the old tile.

Set the new tile in and look at the wall as a whole. If the new tile does not fit exactly to maintain harmony with others, re-accommodate it while the mortar is still fresh.

Sounds relatively easy, doesn´t it? But most people who do this by themselves have trouble for the new tile to fit and look well. Once the tile is there, it is much more difficult and expensive to fix the problem, and they discover it can be as hard as having a decent haircut made with your own hands. It is always better, by all means, to count on professionals and avoid bad quality and future costly repairs.
